General instructions in the event of an emergency

·    Listen for instructions on your radio or television, or call the Emergency Mgt. Information line.

·    Notify your friends and neighbors.

·    Develop a “phone chain” with friends and relatives outside the community. This will eliminate unnecessary calls to Emergency Communications Centers.

·    Have your disaster supply kit ready.

Don’t Panic

 Seek Shelter At Home

Depending on the incident, have a family plan to seek shelter in your home, either for the duration of the event or until authorities can safely evacuate you and your family to a safe shelter. Under these conditions it may be advisable to do the following:

·    Close all windows, doors and fireplace dampers.

·    Turn off fans and air conditioners or any devices that draw in outside air.

·    Go to a safe area of the house.

Evacuate

If authorities determine that evacuation is necessary, it is important to do so in a calm and orderly manner.

·    Secure your home, closing all windows, doors, fireplace dampers or any device that draws outside air.

·    Shut off any unnecessary appliances.

Bring your Disaster Supply Kit.
